Theater Production Audio

Sound for Musicals, Plays, and School Productions

Theater audio is a different job from a corporate event. Dozens of performers, mic swaps between scenes, and a show that has to sound the same on closing night as it did at opening. We support community, school, and regional productions across Connecticut with 30+ channels of Shure ULX-D wireless and engineers who know how a show runs.

From Mic Plot to Closing Night

Body Mic Packages

Shure ULX-D bodypacks with earset or lavalier mics, scaled from 6 channels for a small play to 30+ for a full musical. Every channel is frequency-coordinated for your venue before load-in.

Mic Plot & Show Planning

We work through your script and cast list to plan who gets a dedicated channel, where mics can be shared, and when swaps happen, so the mic plot works before the first rehearsal.

A1 Mixing & A2 Support

An engineer to mix the show from the booth (A1) and a backstage mic tech (A2) to fit mics, manage swaps, tape, and battery changes. Book one or both depending on your crew.

Sound System & Playback

Yamaha and QSC speakers, Yamaha subwoofers, and Powersoft amplification when the venue's house system isn't enough. Sound effects and track playback cued from the mixing console.

Who We Work With

Community Theater

Most community theaters don't own enough wireless for a full musical. We supply the channels, coordinate frequencies, and train your volunteers on fitting and battery changes, or send an A2 to handle it.

Reach Out

School & University Productions

High school and college musicals with large casts and tight budgets. We help directors decide where individual mics matter most and fill the gaps with area mics, so the budget goes where the audience will hear it.

Reach Out

Regional & Summer Stock

Multi-week runs and quick changeovers between shows. Rentals priced by the run, with backup transmitters and spare mics on hand for the whole engagement.

Reach Out

Concerts, Revues & Cabarets

Staged concerts, dance recitals, and cabaret nights with a mix of handheld and body mics, track playback, and a PA sized for the room.

Why Theaters Choose Us

Local, Not Mail-Order

National body mic rental companies ship a box and wish you luck. We're in Newington: we deliver, set up, and are a phone call away during tech week if something goes wrong.

Digital Wireless

Shure ULX-D gives clean 24-bit audio, AES-256 encryption, and rechargeable batteries that last a full show. It's a step above the analog systems many theaters still use.

Built for Tech Week

We schedule around your rehearsal calendar: load-in before first tech, support through dress rehearsals, and pickup after closing night.

Connecticut Service Area

Based in Newington, CT, we primarily serve central Connecticut events. Cities and towns we routinely cover:

We're not bound to central Connecticut. For larger productions and multi-day projects we travel across the Northeast, including Boston, NYC, and the broader CT/MA/RI/NY region. Feel free to reach out.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many wireless mics does a musical need?

It depends on cast size and how much the music overlaps. As a rough guide: small musicals need 6–10 channels, mid-size shows 12–18, and large-cast musicals 20–30 or more. We'll go through your script and cast list to recommend a count. Our blog post on mic counts for musicals covers this in more detail.

Can you train our volunteers to handle mics backstage?

Yes. With a rental-only package we walk your crew through fitting, taping, battery changes, and swap procedures during load-in. If you'd rather not rely on volunteers, we can provide an A2 for tech week and the run.

How far in advance should we book for a production?

For spring musical season (March through May), book 6–8 weeks ahead. That's when school and community productions overlap and channel counts get tight. Outside peak season, 2–4 weeks is usually enough.

Can you work with our venue's existing sound system?

Usually, yes. We can feed our wireless receivers into your house console, or bring our own console and patch into your house speakers. We'll check the venue's system during planning.

Tell us about your show.

Send us the title, venue, dates, and cast size. We'll recommend a mic count and send a quote for the full run.
